Three reporters and photographers were dispatched to test Google’s new driverless car service, Waymo, launching today in San Francisco.

NYT reporter Tripp Mickle and I rode from the famous Painted Ladies to the Beach Chalet 5 miles away.

When the Waymo vehicle detected a firetruck with its sirens on, the car automatically pulled to the side on the road and stopped.
